Maths anxiety: what actually helps

Maths is cumulative. A Year 9 student who fears algebra usually has an unresolved Year 6 fractions gap, and no amount of Year 9 practice will fix it.
The remedy is diagnostic: identify the earliest broken link and rebuild forward. Progress is fast once the foundation is solid.
Fluency matters too. Automatic recall of number facts frees working memory for the actual problem-solving.
Above all, slow the pace of new content until confidence returns. Students who feel capable attempt harder questions, and that is where growth happens.
