Helping your child build study habits that actually stick

Set a fixed time rather than a fixed duration. 'Homework at 5' works; 'two hours of study' invites negotiation.
Keep the workspace boring and consistent, same desk, same lighting, phone in another room. Environment does most of the work.
Ask about process, not results. 'What did you get stuck on?' opens a conversation; 'What did you get?' closes one.
Celebrate the effort that produced the outcome. Students who attribute success to effort keep working when a subject gets hard.
